inspired by biology
Unique depictions of nature, including our own human nature. Paintings that reveal parts of nature unavailable to the naked eye, images of the microscopic world transformed through the filter of metaphor. Paintings that evoke a sense of wonder at life on Earth and our place in that extraordinary dance of energy, light & color. -
dancers
As long ago as 10,000 years ago, our distant ancestors carved or drew lines of female dancers on cave walls along with animals like bison and bear. Keeping this lineage alive with images of human dancers who leap and twirl on the Earth, and of weightless dancers of all shapes and sizes who inhabit Shoshanah's imagination. -
carnival
A medley of marvels (for example, "Down to the Sea"), miracles ("Mary Poppins"), monsters ("Smiles"), and mysteries ("Ancient Serpent"). -
dioramas: a life on stage
Dioramas inspired by the carousel book form that present scenes from my life, real and imagined. Each scene is a stage set with the artist as protagonist. -
energy and movement
Abstract paintings that convey the energy and movement of forms emerging, changing, dissolving in a fluid matrix. While inspired by biological forms, these paintings suggest the tides, the nebulae of outer space, the fluid continuum of the Universe itself. -
italian cinema
Pen-and-ink drawings of scenes from two Italian movies of the 1970s: award-winning "Sacco and Vanzetti" and "La Vacanza (The Vacation)". Shoshanah was assistant costumer on both films and did the drawings while on location. Shown here for the first time in 40 years.
